Measure the area in feet and choose a depth in inches. Walkway and patio bases are commonly about 4 inches deep; driveways and heavy loads usually need more.
Length (ft) × Width (ft) × Depth (in) ÷ 300 = cubic yards
| Depth | One cubic yard covers about |
|---|---|
| 2 inches | 150 sq ft |
| 4 inches | 75 sq ft |
| 6 inches | 50 sq ft |
Example: a 4 × 30 ft walkway at 4 inches is 120 × 4 ÷ 300 = 1.6, so order 2 cubic yards.
We deliver by dump truck, up to 10 cubic yards of rock per load, usually within 1–2 business days. You don't need to be home, and there is no minimum load size. Delivery is charged by driving miles from our yard:
| Distance from our yard | Dump truck |
|---|---|
| Under 5 miles | $65 |
| 5 to 9.9 miles | $75 |
| 10 to 14.9 miles | $85 |
| 15 miles or more | $6 per mile |
Base is limestone caliche road base, sized from ¾" down to dust, so it packs hard. It goes under pavers, patios, sheds and driveways. Crushed limestone is chalky white stone with jagged edges in ¾" or 1½" that stays loose and lets water drain.
¾" packs into a firmer walking surface for paths and walkways. 1½" leaves more open space for water, which suits French drains and drainage areas.
