How much river rock do I need?

Measure the area in feet and pick a depth in inches. Most beds and dry creek beds use 2 to 3 inches of 1–3" river rock.

Length (ft) × Width (ft) × Depth (in) ÷ 300 = cubic yards

DepthOne cubic yard covers about
2 inches150 sq ft
3 inches100 sq ft
4 inches75 sq ft

Example: a 10 × 20 ft bed at 2 inches is 200 × 2 ÷ 300 = 1.3, so order 1½ cubic yards. At our starting price of $90 a yard, that is about $135 for pickup.

What size river rock should I use?

⅜" pea gravel works for paths and between stepping stones. 1–3" rock is the all-around choice for beds and dry creek beds. 3–5" bull rock suits drainage areas, slopes and borders.

Which river rock is most popular?

Colorado River Rock, a caramel brown with creams, is our best seller. It is similar to Texas Blend.

Can I buy less than a yard?

Yes. River rock is sold by the yard and half yard, and we can hand-fill buckets or bags for small amounts. There is no minimum load size for delivery.

Will it look like the photos?

Our photos show the stone wet. Dry river rock looks lighter and dustier. Rock Glue or Wet Look Sealer brings back that rich, wet color.
